I have never seen myself as a salesperson. In fact, when someone would offer me a position that required me to sell I quickly would turn it down. Why? Because I am not a salesperson. I have never been in sales. I have never been in a position to sell anything to someone that if they didn’t buy I didn’t make money.
The whole thought around the idea of being in sales gives me anxiety but what I didn’t know was I did know how to sell. In fact, I had been selling all my life and didn’t even know it because I didn’t see what I did every single day as “selling”.
So when I came into the online space and was introduce to biz coaching I was all excited to start my new journey up to the point that I realized I needed to be my own “salesperson”.
Nope! Not going to happen. There’s no way that I can get out there and make sales especially based on my own services especially the fact that it was a service not a product that was selling. --- Yea! This is going to be an epic FAIL!
Of course, you could imagine the look on my face when I realized that I wouldn’t actually be going out there and selling my services but rather selling “MYSELF”.
Oh Hell No! I think that is worse than selling a service… My own service.
Having to talk about myself and why they should buy from me, trust me, and just hand me their money because I am the expert was seriously one of the scariest things ever. But I knew I really really wanted a successful coaching business and I was soooo passionate about what I was want to teach and offer that I decided it was time to learn how to “SELL”.
It took a lot of inner work and raw honesty with myself but I eventually figured out what it was that freaked me out about selling and today I can totally say with confidence that I LOVE TO SELL!
I LOVE SALES!
I LOVE TO DO SALES ACTIVITIES EVERY SINGLE DAY!
SELLING IS FUN AND EASY!
Wondering what I figured out to be the problem and how did I change that?
Of course, you are….
I realized I had a FEAR OF SELLING!
See when I was a child any time I heard someone talk about a sales person it would always be in a negative way.
“That sales person was pushy.”
“That guys is just a slimy used car salesman.”
“Don’t take your car to the dealership because they are just there to make sales for more commission so they are going to sell you crap you don’t need.”
And of course the list goes on and on which I am sure you have heard a few of these yourself.
So hearing this all the time over and over really just implanted a bad taste in my mouth about sales without even understanding why.
It wasn’t until the age of 30 that I was able to understand why I felt this way and lucky for me it was something that could be fixed with a little bit of mindset work and daily effort and action taking.
Before I could go out there in the “world” and sell my coaching services I had to overcome and conquer my fear around selling and that’s exactly what I did.
After overcoming this fear around how I viewed selling and the way I showed up online with my business to sell myself and my coaching services everything changed and shifted for me.
Selling became easy.
Selling became fun.
I fell in love with selling and I never turned back.
Selling should be fun, easy and exciting and you should be in LOVE with selling your coaching services to your audience but if your not that must change or your business will never be that empire you dream of building.
That’s why today I am going to share with you my favorite tips and secrets for overcoming and conquering your fear of selling so you can move forward in building the coaching empire of your dreams.
Are you ready? Then let’s get to it!
3 Tips To Overcoming and Conquering Your Fear Of Selling
Understanding Where This Fear Came From
You can’t overcome and conquer something if you don’t even know where this fear came from so understanding where it came from is your first step.
Like I mentioned above, my fear of selling stemmed around things my parents or others said around me about sales or selling. It was an inherited mindset that I didn’t even know I had.
You may also have a similar situation as a child or maybe you were screwed over by a salesperson and it left a bad taste in your mouth about sales. No matter what it may be you still need to understand and identify where it came from.
My favorite way to do this is to pull out my journal and ask myself….
“How Do I Feel About Sales?”
Then I follow it up with this questions….
“Why Do I Feel This Way About Sales or Selling?”
You will be amazed at the amount of stuff that will come out around this topic that you didn’t even know was buried deep down inside you just festering and causing you to struggle.
Addressing The Source Of The Problem
Once you have identified where this fear came from or how it started it’s time to retrain your way of thinking.
This for me was hard at first because I had thought and felt the same way for 30 years and now I have to retrain my thinking. That seemed a little overwhelming but I gave it a try and it was easier than I ever thought.
Here’s what I did….
Each day during my journaling I would do positive selling affirmations. I started out writing 25 positive affirmations and then a couple of days later I increased it to 50 and in about a week I was easily writing up to 100 different affirmations around me, my sales, my ability to sell, and my love for sales.
Selling is always easy for me.
I love selling.
Selling is fun.
I am a sales master.
My services are soooo good that they sell themselves.
My audience loves me so I don’t feel like I am ever really selling.
Selling is a services.
Ok, so you get the point and I know it sounds crazy but it really works. Give it a try.
Confidence and Excitement
Once of the biggest reasons people struggle with selling is that they are not 110% confident in what they are selling. They create stuff just for the sake of creating it and not because they are passionate and excited about it.
When you truly believe in something, no matter what it is, you will get up and share it, scream it, and sell it until you are blue in the face. It will be one of those things that you just can’t stop thinking about and talking about so you will tell it to everyone around rather they care or not. -- Trust me I do this to my husband all the time. I seriously can talk his ear off about something I am selling.
These 3 tips I just shared with you will get you on the right track to overcoming your fear of selling and have you mastering your sales like the BADA$$ you are.
